The Ritual Use of Coffee in Magick

Coffee in magick has a long history. It's believed that the first coffee drinkers originated in Ethiopia however when the Coffee Bean made its appearance in Western Europe it became known as “Satan's Drink”! This could be because of the Sufi practice of the Muslim faith and the prevalent use of coffee in their magic, but that's just a hypothesis. What I do really know about it is that Pope Clement the 8th who ruled from 1536 to 1605 was the first person to officially ‘try it’ in the new world and he really enjoyed it. In fact, he enjoyed coffee so much that he decided to baptize coffee beans which abolished the dark energy (supposedly) of the coffee and then he declared it a blessed drink. At this point, when coffee got the okay, it began springing up and shops throughout Europe and became very very famous!
Coffee has a lot of physical applications but probably the most widely accepted use of coffee is for gaining energy. (It's also interesting to note that aromatherapy uses coffee as a depression fix. Just smelling the ground beans or inhaling the aroma of a fresh cup of coffee can help improve your mood.)
With its energetic giving qualities, coffee is ruled by the planet Mars and so has a fiery energetic quality. Coffee is used in many Traditions to help amplify and speed up spell work. If you're looking for a generalized booster for any sort of spell work go to coffee!
A Clever use for coffee is to help enhance the female sexual libido!
Place coffee grounds on a lit charcoal disc and bathe a piece of hematite or a lodestone (2 paired lodestones work EXCELLENT for this) in the smoke of the burning coffee. After this piece of hematite has been blessed in the coffee it can be placed on the sacral chakra and left to sit for about an hour while the person visualizes having an appropriate, healthy, pleasurable sexual experience. Repeated applications of the smoke charged hematite to the area will begin to loosen any negative energies around the sacral chakra and open that chakra up for realization and healing!
In the Voodoo tradition, the male Orisha of Fire, Chango, is said to rule over coffee and spicy foods/scents and it is a common offering!
In Chinese tradition, coffee works as a Chi amplifier... it's useful in health and healings. It's important however, not to try to utilize coffee in health and healings if you have an excess of the fire element in your body evident... such as high fever or anything like that. (In those cases, you need to fix the excess fire before you offer new healthy fire into the system.)
Coffee's also a Lust amplifier, and this may be why it was deemed as Satan’s Drink as well in the early times. It can be used in spells that are geared towards love and lust...anything related to sex and the sexual libido.
